Inspiring Eden to Achieve Rural Excellence

Eden council is working hard to get its communities and businesses in “the best place they can be” before handing over to Westmorland and Furness authority says Greg Macdonald, Economic Development Manager

Due to the Inspiring Eden programme to achieve rural excellence, the money is there.

The district council has invested £780,000 to get things started and has access to money from the Government’s shared prosperity fund – all part of their levelling up agenda.
“We have just under £2 million and we have to write an investment plan over the summer to draw that down from government.
There is also the Borderlands funding, which is part of an inclusive growth deal from government, which is focused on Penrith, and we have got around £2 million for that,” said Mr Mcdonald, who has been in post since last summer.

However, he said that one of the challenges the council has faced is “getting a really good pipeline of projects up and running that are ready to go.”

To discover which projects could be supported, the council has launched an expression of interest form, which asks things like where the projects are located, what help is needed and when they’re due to happen.

For this initial phase, the deadline for submission of completed forms is 5pm on Friday 20th May.
